Why we quote Clark
Clark is the line we quote for plain counterbalanced work when the budget matters. Capacities run from 3,000 lb through 18,000 lb and up. Cushion tires suit indoor slabs, and pneumatic tires suit yards and dock aprons. Power options are LP, diesel and electric. For a building that needs a truck to move pallets reliably, not do a specialized job, Clark is usually the best value on the quote.
Baltimore's older industrial stock is natural Clark territory. The single-story industrial parks along the Beltway, around Halethorpe, Glen Burnie and Dundalk, mostly went up with 18 to 22 foot clear heights. Inside the city, the brick warehouses and factory buildings of the rowhouse era in Canton, Highlandtown and Curtis Bay are often lower still. Both have tight column spacing and slabs that have shifted over the decades. That rules out tall three-stage masts. A compact cushion-tire truck on a two-stage mast is the machine that actually fits. A full-size counterbalanced truck often will not work in that stock, whatever it costs.
Clark also comes up because its parts network lasts. Clark trucks stay in service for a very long time, and parts for older units are easy to find. That changes the math on used equipment. Take a single-shift shop in Baltimore County with four hours of real lift time a day. Hours never pile up the way they do in a multi-shift building, which is what makes used equipment risky. For that operation, a well-documented reconditioned Clark is often the right call.

Clark trucks stay in service for decades, and parts for older units are easy to find. That makes a 15-year-old Clark a sound purchase. A truck the same age from a brand with thinner support would not be.

On IC trucks, these two numbers differ. A truck idling all day at a dock builds engine hours without doing much work. We read both meters where the truck reports them.

Mast wear and slab history
Ask where the truck worked. A Clark that spent its life on a broken slab in an old city warehouse shows it. You see it in the mast rollers and the front axle.

LP vs diesel condition
LP trucks usually run cleaner inside than diesel trucks at the same hours. On diesel trucks, we check for blow-by and injector condition before we recondition.
