1 Is fall protection required?
Yes, fall protection is required on an order picker. Operators on a rising platform must wear a body harness. The lanyard must attach to the marked anchor point on the truck. This is not optional. It must be part of operator training and daily practice, not a policy nobody enforces.
2 Do order pickers need guidance?
Order pickers usually need guidance in very narrow aisles. Wire or rail guidance keeps the truck centered, so the operator can focus on picking instead of steering at height. In wider aisles, guidance is optional. Decide at the rack layout stage, because adding guidance to an installed system is disruptive.
3 Can one truck do both picking and pallet handling?
One truck does both jobs poorly. Order pickers and counterbalance trucks solve different problems. A truck chosen as a compromise tends to do both jobs slowly. Most operations with real pick volume end up with both trucks.
