Reach Trucks in the Baltimore Area
A reach truck is the right forklift when a building has height and needs aisles narrower than a counterbalance truck can turn in. It reaches its forks forward into the rack instead of carrying the load ahead of the wheels. That lets it work aisles down to around eight feet and lift well beyond thirty. In a tall building, that is the difference between using the space and paying rent on air. A reach truck also needs a good floor. At height, small bumps in the floor turn into large mast deflection (the mast bending off true).

1 Do I need a special floor for a reach truck?
A reach truck needs a good, level floor. At 30 ft of lift, a small dip or slope at floor level causes serious mast sway. That makes the operator uneasy and slower. Floor flatness matters more as lift height goes up. Check the floor before you commit to a narrow-aisle layout, not after.
2 How much storage does narrow aisle actually gain?
Switching from counterbalance aisles to reach-truck aisles typically wins back a real share of the floor space lost to aisles. The exact gain depends on your current layout. In a tall building, the extra beam levels add to that gain. The right way to size it is against your actual rack layout, not a rule of thumb.
3 Can a reach truck load trucks at the dock?
A reach truck does not load trailers well. Reach trucks are built to work in rack, not to drive into trailers. Most operations that run them also keep a counterbalance truck for dock work. If you only have budget for one truck, that usually points away from a reach truck.
